Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  How do I get to FCCD?

A:    The Guests page has some instructions, including a link to our Map page.

Q:  What time are the services?

A:    Sunday services are 9:00 and 10:30 AM.  Check the Events page for other services.

Q:  What style of music is used during services?

A:    FCCD offers two distinct services to provide a choice of traditional or contemporary worship experiences.  See the Sunday morning page.

Q:  Is FCCD affiliated with a national denomination?

A:    No, FCCD is a locally-governed body of believers with no national affiliation.  We do not pay dues, nor are we bound by the creeds or doctrines of any overarching organization.

Q:  Do I have to be a Christian to attend services?

A:    Everyone with a respectful view of the Bible is welcome, regardless of whether they have yet made a personal commitment to Jesus.

Q:  How does one become a Christian?

A:    Most people become Christians by learning about Jesus from other Christians, so stop in for a personal answer!  It is hard to pass on the love of Jesus via the Internet, but try www.greatcom.org for the basic information in many languages, even Hindi, Swahili, and Chinese.

Q:  Is there a dress code to attend services?

A:    Wear something comfortable; there are no rules except to avoid the scandalous!  (Attire ranges from jeans to suits.)

Q:  Are FCCD services "Charismatic" or "Pentecostal"?

A:    FCCD services do not include practices commonly associated with Charismatic or Pentecostal services.

Q:  Do people raise their hands during worship?

A:    Some occasionally like to follow David's example of Psalm 63:4, "I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands."  Others offer praise more modestly.

Q:  Do visitors have to stand up to be recognized?

A:    We do not ask visitors to stand during services.  A Welcome Center is provided in Richardson Fellowship Hall for guests to informally meet a church member and receive a welcome package, including a special gift.

Q:  How is communion observed?

A:    We remember Jesus' teaching of the bread and cup each Sunday morning.  Our communion is open to all Christians, regardless of church membership.

Q:  Is there any fee to attend?

A:    Worship services are open to the public and free, as are most classes and activities.  A small fee is requested for a few events to offset the cost of materials, transportation or food, which can be waived in special circumstances.  A voluntary offering is collected during some meetings for those wishing to support FCCD.

Q:  What is FCCD's belief on baptism?

A:    FCCD follows the New Testament example of baptism by immersion as soon as practically possible after a person commits their life to Jesus.  We do not baptize babies, although we provide a "dedication service" for the newborn's family to thank God for the blessing of a new child and commit themselves to bring up the child in a Godly fashion.

Q:  Does FCCD have any special children's programs?

A:    We put a real emphasis on children, with staff dedicated to children and youth.  There are plenty of weekly activities on Sunday other evenings, plus trips to youth conferences like Christ In Youth and Indiana Christian Youth Conference

Q:  What about a program for Seniors?

A:    The Prime Time ministry is one of our most active.  Check out their page.

Q:  When is the church office open?

A:    The office is open weekday mornings from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM.  FCCD staff are often out and about, so you might want to call before stopping in.  The phone number is (219) 865-6646.

Q:  Can I request prayer for a special need?

A:    Absolutely!  We have a prayer chain and a number of groups dedicated to pray for those in need.  You can call the office or use a Prayer Request Form next time you visit.

Q:  Does FCCD have any counseling services?

A:    FCCD does not provide professional counseling, but we do have Stephen Ministry volunteers that may be just what you need when life is unkind.

Q:  Do you have a food pantry for those needing food?

A:    Yes we do!  Just call the office.

Q:  Can I be married in FCCD's facilities?

A:    Sure!  Call the church office for details.

Q:  Can I rent the Family Life Center?

A:    FCCD has many activities (just check the Events page), so scheduling may be a challenge.  Check with the church office for scheduling and policies.

Q:  How long has FCCD been serving Dyer?

A:    The Chicago District Evangelistic Association started working with Dyer believers in 1969.  We met in Protsman Elementary School until 1976, when we moved into our current home on Route 30.  The Education Wing opened in 1980, followed by the Family Life Center in 2000.  FCCD's growth extended beyond physical facilities, as we worked with the C.D.E.A. to plant other churches in the Northwest Indiana area.  Come grow with us!
